What Our Employees Are Saying. . .

Katie

Management Technician

“Graduating from UC Davis in 2020, it was difficult to find a job while businesses were downsizing and moving toward remote work due to the Pandemic. Thankfully, I came across Nevada County's internship opportunities. After my internship, I became a temporary employee for awhile and then was offered a full-time benefited position within the County. I see a long future ahead working for Nevada County and that is all because of the internship program, and I will forever be thankful for the help and support I received”

Sarah

Senior Management Analyst

“The County of Nevada has been a fantastic new chapter in my career. After taking three years off from the workforce to grow my family, I took a careful look at the employment opportunities in the Grass Valley / Nevada City area. With a background in public policy, the County was an obvious contender. After doing some research and meeting with several County leaders, I landed an internship in the Board of Supervisors’ office. The work was exciting and the team and I were a good match. Several months later, I secured a full-time role in the same department and am now thriving professionally. The benefits to working for the County are extensive – from the top-down encouragement to pursue continued learning to the many excellent colleagues you can look to for inspiration and collaboration. I am valued here and know that I am making real contributions toward my community’s well-being.”

Paul

Program Manager

“I am so thankful for the opportunities and the relationships I formed as an intern in the Skillbridge Program. Transition from active duty to the civilian world after 22 1/2 years of service was a bit daunting but the County of Nevada staff have been so welcoming, supportive and friendly. This community along with the County of Nevada have so much to offer employees and I encourage you to reach out with questions or support as you transition into employment with this great organization.”

Phelan

Human Services Specialist

“My relationship with Nevada County began as a customer. As a single mother of a child who at the time was less than 6 months when I applied, and with a 5-year gap in employment and no stable work history to speak of, I was in desperate need of support. Nevada County is where I found it. As a recipient of CalWorks, I learned the skills necessary to re-enter the workforce, and I was given the opportunity to gain experience in a paid internship with Nevada County. This led to a full-time job in Social Services. I now have a solid background in employment development thanks to the internship and 2 years as a direct employee. That experience will, I hope, lead to a lifelong career in Social Service. I knew that the County was somewhat of a “last bastion” of employers that offer retirement options, exceptional health plan benefits, and opportunities for growth within the organization. When I did make the shift from non-profit 501(c) to government, the County not only met, but exceeded, my expectations – from onboarding, to training, to a work culture that is truly reflective of its stated mission and philosophy – and it continues to do so. I have never felt more at home with an employer than I do now, and I am truly honored that I get to say I work not just for a County, but for this one: Nevada County. ”
