Nevada County awards Veteran's Preference Points during the recruitment process to eligible veterans when applying to our non-exempt positions
Those who have served in the United States’ Armed Forces as defined in Government Code Section 18540 and who qualify as veterans who have been discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable, shall be eligible for 5 veterans’ preference points to be added to their overall application score, provided that they meet the minimum qualifications of the job they are applying for.
(You must provide a copy of your DD-214 to your application.)
Qualified veterans with a service-connected disability of 10% or more shall be eligible for an additional 5 points to be added to their overall application passing score, provided that they meet the minimum qualifications of the job they are applying for. To receive the additional 5 veterans’ preference points, a copy of an official statement, dated within the last twelve (12) months, from either the Department of Veterans Affairs, or a branch of the Armed Forces indicating that disability is 10% or more, must be attached to each specific employment application.

Nevada County is the first County in California to become an Army PaYS partner, offering an interview guarantee to soldiers who meet the eligibility requirements for the job they are applying to.
This program allows Service members up to 180 days to intern with select employers to gain valuable skills to assist in transitioning from military service.
Nevada County partners with the Department of Veterans Affairs to host veterans, both as college students under the VA Work-study program and as Non-Paid Veterans Work Experience.
