The County of Nevada offers several medical plan options through CalPERS, including Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs).

The County provides complimentary group life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance through Voya. All regular employees working 20 hours or more per week are eligible. Employees can also opt to purchase voluntary employee life, voluntary spouse life, and voluntary child life.
Choose from any of the following voluntary optional plans: Accident 101, Cancer Assist, Critical Illness 1.0, Life Insurance, Medical Bridge 7000/Hospital Confinement.
The County offers a tax-free benefit plan that provides employees with ways to save thousands of dollars per year by offering the option to pay for certain types of expenses with pre-tax payroll deductions. If you choose to participate, this will reduce your taxable income.

We partner with Nationwide Retirement Solutions to provide our employees with deferred compensation plans including 401(a), 457(b), and Roth options. The 401(a) has a 90-day deadline from your hire date to enroll.
Nevada County regular employees are enrolled in the CalPERS Retirement System, and contributions are made automatically. The County pays a generous portion toward your retirement each pay period, and you start to accrue service credit from your first day. Miscellaneous Retirement (all non-safety positions):
Tier I: 2.7% at 55 Classic-former employees originally hired on or before 12/13/12 and are returning to Nevada County.
Tier II: 2% at 60 Hired by a CalPERS employer between 12/14/12-12/31/12 and coming to Nevada County with less than 6-months between separation from former CalPERS employer and hire date with Nevada County.
Tier III: 2% at 62 Hired by any CalPERS employer on or after 1/1/13.
Safety Retirement:
Tier I: 3% at 50 Classic-former employees originally hired on or before 12/13/12 and are returning to Nevada County.
Tier II: 3% at 55 Hired by a CalPERS employer between 7/24/11-12/31/12 and coming to Nevada County with less than 6-months between separation from former CalPERS employer and hire date with Nevada County.
Tier III: 2.7% at 57 Hired by any CalPERS employer on or after 1/1/13.
